package

Kenny and surrounding neighborhoods have recently seen a spike in two different types of thefts – packages being stolen after delivery by UPS and other carriers, and theft of items left for recycling and garbage pickup. In one instance someone came on to a resident’s property and took items that were not for recycling.

Here’s what each of us can be doing to prevent thefts AND assist the police in making arrests. Please also see the attached pdf for more tips.

REPORT all incidents as soon as possible to the police by calling 9-1-1.

Package Delivery Thefts:

  • If a package theft issue, contact the company that you purchased the item from, then the Delivery Company, and then 9-1-1 with any known details. ALL delivery companies work with the police to identify and stop these types of thefts.
  • If you have an order for delivery of a special item (family heirloom, jewelry, etc.) consider other options for delivery of the package as detailed in the delivery package options provided by our Crime Prevention Specialist.

Theft of Recycling, Garbage, and Other Property:

  • Always keep your garage doors locked and secured unless you are in the immediate vicinity of the garage.
  • Consider installing motion activated lighting to alert you when someone has entered the property.
  • Do not put out valuable recycling items until just before scheduled pick up.
  • If you do see a scrapper going up and down the alley, taking things out of the garbage cans or recycling bins, or going onto private property, call 9-1-1 immediately. (This will alert the police to any patterns of activity and allow them to provide extra patrols in the area.)
